Wolverine Girls Softball over Cleveland 6-5 in eight

 

 

It took a extra inning, but the Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (MLA-C) Wolverine Girls Softball squad notched a 6-5 non-conference victory over Cleveland on the Clippers’ home diamond today (Thursday, May 18).

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the seventh inning, host Cleveland scoring two runs in their bottom half of the sixth inning to knot up the contest. The Wolverines fired back with three seventh inning runs, but were matched by the Clippers in the bottom of the seventh.

MLA-C scored one in the top half of the eighth, and, holding their opponents’ runless in their at-bat, claimed the win.

Molly Carnell pitched all eight innings for the Wolverines, compiling seven strike-outs and recording 32 first-pitch strikes.

Carnell was also a strength for MLA-C at the plate, knocking in four RBIs. Jordan Boldt added one RBI. Boldt had a pair of hits in the game. The Wolverines had 11 hits in the extended-inning play; the Clippers with 12.

Destiny Sybounheuan got the offense moving with five Quality At Bats (QABs), and Rylie Tollefson and Taylor Naas kept the baserunners on the move, each with a trio of QABs.

The team’s head coach is Brian Hopwood, with Shawn Naas as assistant coach.
