Wolverines win 8-3 in non-league game on Comfrey’s ball diamond
After two innings, the Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (MLA-C) Wolverine Girls Softball squad was up 4-1 over visiting Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (G-F-W) in a non-league game played today (Friday, May 12), on the Comfrey ball diamond. They went on to take the victory, 8-3.
The Wolverines added four more in the bottom of the fifth to pad the cushion to eight runs, 8-1. The guests added one tally in their half of the sixth and seventh innings, but MLA-C’s defense held on for the five-run win.
On the game, MLA-C hitters scattered 10 hits, with Amber Eischen accounting for two of those, as well as bringing home two RBIs. Hailey Pidde led the team with three RBIs. Margo Stoesz pumped the offense with a trio of Quality At Bats (QABs).
From the pitching rubber, Jordan Boldt tossed six complete innings and nabbed one out in the seventh. Molly Carnell came in to relieve Boldt and claimed the final two outs of the game.
The team’s head coach is Brian Hopwood, with Shawn Naas as assistant coach.
