MLA-C squad tops Springfield at home, 7-3
A dreary spring sports week finally featured a little cooperation, clearing skies and slightly warmer temps, which, in turn, led to Wolverine softball. The Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey (MLA-C) Wolverine Girls Softball squad hosted the Springfield Tigers today (Friday, April 28), and defeated their guests, 7-3 in a non-conference contest. With the win, MLA-C is 5-3 on the season.
Molly Carnell was wheeling from the mound, hurling a complete game, collecting 23 first-pitch strikes – as well as five strikeouts – along the way. Carnell had a 0.71 WHIP (Walks Plus Hits Per Inning Pitched) – a measurement of the number of baserunners a pitcher has allowed per inning pitched.
Amber Eischen and Hailey Pidde connected for two hits each. MLA-C’s Meredith Suess recorded three quality-at-bats.
The squad’s next scheduled game is another home contest, Tuesday, May 2, against Murray County Central.
The team’s head coach is Brian Hopwood, with Shawn Naas as assistant coach.
