Funeral sevices for Vernon “Chris” Christopher, 82, of Jackson, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, April 13 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson with Pastor Lance Isaacson officiating.

Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, April 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and again and one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday.

Vernon “Chris” Christopher passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Jackson Good Samaritan Center.

Vernon “Chris” Eugene Christopher, the son of Orin and Freida (Lemickson) Christopher, was born on June 23, 1934 on the family farm in Belmont Township, Jackson County, Minnesota.  As a child, Chris attended Jackson Public Schools, graduating from Jackson High School in 1952. After high school, Chris attended three years of college, first at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota; then at Mankato State University (today, Minnesota State University-Mankato), before returning home in 1955 to help on the family farm.

On February 9, 1957, Chris was united in marriage to Ethel Olson at Long Lake Lutheran Church in rural St. James, Minnesota. That same year he enlisted in the Army National Guard. Chris and Ethel lived and farmed in Enterprise Township until moving into Jackson in 1999.

In 2015, Chris entered the Jackson Good Samaritan Center.

Chris was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Jackson where he was an active member, serving on the church council and teaching Sunday School and release time.

Chris was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather. He set the bar high, attending every single sporting event of his children and grandchildren. For many years, Chris enjoyed coaching youth sports in Jackson. He was also a member of the Jackson School Board and was a longtime 4-H leader in Jackson County.

Chris is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ethel; his three sons, Brent (Missy) Christopher, Kevin (Deb) Christopher, and Corey (Morgan Allee) Christopher, all of Jackson; five grandchildren, Bryce, Sarah, Taylor, Scott and Ryan Christopher and his sister, Mavis (Harlo) Handevidt.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Randall and his sister, Florence Koep.
