Easter Sunday afternoon accident sends five to hospitals

Two-vehicle crash occurs at north end of Heron Lake on Highway 60

 

 

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a two-vehicle Easter Sunday afternoon, April 16 accident north of Heron Lake in Weimer Township of Jackson County on Minnesota State Highway 60 sent five persons to two hospitals, including four juveniles.

At 2:48 p.m., a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by 35-year-old Anthony Jenniges, westbound on Highway 60, was attempting to turn left onto 1st Avenue, into Heron Lake. A 2014 Volkswagen Routan, driven by Mychal Hix, 28, of New Prague, was eastbound on Highway 60 when the Eclipse crossed in front and was struck broadside. An adult passenger in the Routan, 28-year-old Melinda Hix of New Prague, was transported to Windom Area Hospital. Three juvenile passengers, a nine-year-old female and eight-year-old twins, a female and a male, were also taken to Windom Area Hospital. A fourth juvenile passenger, a four-year-old female, was transported to Children’s Hospital in St. Paul. All five taken to health care facilities received non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Routan, as well as the Eclipse, were not injured.

Assisting the Minnesota State Patrol were the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Heron Lake Police Department and Windom Ambulance Squad.
