The America’s Farmers Grow Communities program, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, gives farmers each year the opportunity to support rural America and give back to a nonprofit of their choice. During an annual registration window of August 1 to November 30, eligible farmers in southwest Minnesota have the opportunity to enroll in the program to win a $2,500 donation to direct to a nonprofit.

The program provides farmers with the opportunity to make a difference in their rural communities nationwide. This year, farmers won more than $3 million in donations to their local communities. Since the program began in 2010, the America’s Farmers Grow Communities program has awarded more than $22 million to a broad cross-section of nonprofit organizations that reflect and comprise the character of rural America, including emergency response organizations, schools, youth agriculture programs and many others.

This year, the program’s support for rural America equals support for Mountain Lake Christian (MLC). To show the true impact of the $2,500 donation, Cottonwood County farm couple Jon and Brenda Adrian of Mountain Lake were local winners, and directed the donation to the Mountain Lake Area Foundation (MLAF). The MLAF was used as a conduit to award the funds to MLC to support the school’s music and safe internet programs.

Registration for donations in 2018 will begin again this year on August 1 and run though the end of November. Online enrollment, as well as a complete list of program rules and eligibility information, can be found at www.GrowCommunities.com, or by calling toll-free, 1-877-267-3332. Consumers can also follow Grow Communities on Facebook to learn more about the program at facebook.com/AmericasFarmers.

Al Mitchell, Monsanto Fund president, stated, “We are excited to team up with farmers once gain to help support the causes that mean the most to them and that have an impact in their local communities. Because of their commitment to this program, thousands of nonprofit organizations have been able to enhance the important programs and services they provide, having a positive impact on the communities they serve.”

The Americas’ Farmes campaign highlights the importance of modern United States agriculture through communications and community outreach programs that partner with farmers to impact rural America. To learn more, visit America’s Farmers at www.AmericasFarmers.com.

The MLAF is the one-stop community organization for charitable contributions that benefit the Mountain Lake area – the place we call “home.” It is a permanent resource for the community that provides leadership and financial resources in the form of grants to meet the needs of our community.

The mission of the MLAF is to promote charitable giving and facilitate the economic and social growth of the community.
