Mid-March snow dump

But, at least we don’t live in the Poconos

Spring has been delayed. A Sunday, March 12 winter storm provided southwest Minnesota with a mid-March snow dump, creating snow-covered roadways, making travel difficult.

Mountain Lake had approximately 10 inches, with Jackson topping the area with a foot of the white stuff. More than nine inches of snow piled up in St. James, with eight inches in Windom, Madelia and Wabasso. In the Twin Cities, snowfall amounts totaled one-to-four inches. Forecasters stated that Sunday was the snowiest day in the Twin Cities metro in nearly three months. (But, hey, at least we don’t live in the Pocono Mountains of northeast Pennsylvania. The Midwest’s Sunday storm is moving east and will join forces with a major nor’easter to create Winter Storm Stella. Eighteen-to-24 inches of snow is predicted for the Poconos and surrounding region.)

Back home, the Minnesota State Patrol responded to nearly 400 crashes across the state on Sunday. A multi-vehicle pileup temporarily shut down Interstate 694 in Fridley.
