Basketball season ends for MLA girls

Lose to GHEC/Truman/Martin Luther 67 to 42

 

THE BASKETBALL SEASON ended Tuesday night, February 28, for the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine girls basketball team in the opening round of the Section 2A South Sub-Section Tourney with a 67 to 42 loss to Granada/Huntley/East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther of Northrop (GHEC/T/ML) at Granada. It was a low-scoring first half for MLA, the squad tallying 14 points to 37 for the hosts, and GHEC/T/ML continued to hold the cushion to the final buzzer. Freshman Margo Stoesz led Wolverine scorers with 17, while senior Liana Blomgren, in her final game wearing the maroon-and-silver jersey on the hard court, hit for 14 points. Hanna Geistfeld and Kenlie Pyleski each scored 14 points for GHEC/T/ML. Hannah Johanson tallied 13 GHEC/T/ML, the #2-seed in the South Sub-Section will play St. Clair on Friday night, March 3, at Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial. St. Clair, the #3-seed, defeated sixth-seed, Alden/Conger, in a game also played last night. The Wolverines were seeded seventh in the South Sub-Section. The South Sub-Section’s top seed is Mankato Loyola.
