THE MOUNTAIN LAKE Area (MLA) Wolverine girls basketball team, in their final regular season game, were clipped by Murray County Central (MCC) in Slayton, 46 to 44. The Wolverines had a five-point lead at halftime, 23 to 18, however the Rebels had a great second half to rally back for the two-point win. Brook Sunderman, Margo Stoesz and Jewel Soutthivong all scored 10 points to lead MLA scoring. Katlyn Knakmuhs led MCC with nine points and Montana Beckman scored eight. The Wolverine girls, who finish the season at 11-15 and 6-11 in the conference, have a break until they enter tourney play on Tuesday, February 28. The MLA girls were seeded seventh in the Girls Basketball Section 2A South Sub-Section, and will face #2-seed Granada/Huntley (GHEC)/Truman/Martin Luther of Northrop at Granada next Tuesday. Tip-off will be at 7 p.m. The South Sub-Section’s top seed is Mankato Loyola. The winner of the MLA and GHEC/Truman/Martin Luther game will play the winner of the St. Clair (#3-seed) and Alden-Conger (#6-seed) at Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial on Friday, March 3, beginning at 7:45 p.m.
