MLA boys, girls hard court squads lose at SWC

Boys in high-scoring, barn-burner; Girls struggle to keep pace

 

 

In the opening game of a weather-forced make-up boys/girls doubleheader against conference foe Southwest Christian (SWC) in Edgerton, the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine varsity boys opened up the back-to-back on Saturday, January 14, with a high-scoring, barn-burner contest, but unfortunately fell just short.

The Wolverines held a narrow three-point lead over their hosts at the half, 39 to 36. In the second stanza, scorers for each squad were hot. However, in that second half, SWC was able to score 53, and MLA, 44, with the win going to the Eagles, 89-83.

Three Wolverines hit for double figures, Marcus Boyd scoring a varsity personal-best 30 points; Levi Stoesz, 13 and Tommy Kraemer, 10. Aaron Fast and Weston Osland each had nine tallies. Boyd also had six boards, four assists and four steals. Kraemer pulled down eight rebounds and Stoesz, six. Kraemer also went up for four blocked shots. Osland grabbed five rebounds.

SWC just edged MLA in shooting, the Eagles with 50%, with the Wolverines shooting 48%. SWC took 21 shoots behind the three-point arc, scoring on 10. MLA went 5-17 in three-point shots made. From the charity line, the Wolverines were 4 for 8 (50%), their opponents good on 19 of 29, for 66%/

The MLA girls game followed, with the Wolverines outpaced in scoring. At halftime, MLA was dwn 46-20, and, scoring just 13 in the second half, lost to the Eagles, 78 to 33.
