Cyril Helget

Mass of Christian Burial for 81-year-old Cyril Helget of Comfrey, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, January 27, 2017, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey. The church is located at 218 Field Street North.

Interment will be in the church cemetery, located at Brown County Road 16 North.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2017, at Sturm Funeral Home-Comfrey Chapel. The funeral home is located at 101 Field Street North. A second visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral mass from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Cyril Joseph Helget passed away on January 23, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Springfield in Springfield, Minnesota.

Cyril was born on January 8, 1936, the son of Joseph Jr. and Loretta (Mathiowetz) Helget in Comfrey. He attended and graduated from Comfrey High School.

On June 10, 1959, Cyril was united in marriage to Arlene Flor at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield. Cyril farmed throughout his life. He was also a dairy farmer until selling the cows in 1993.

Cyril served many years in National Guard. He was involved with the Comfrey Lions and an active member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed mowing grass, planting potatoes, listening to old time music and watching sports – especially the Minnesota Vikings. In his younger years, he played with the Mulligan Baseball Team, vacationing and shaking dice at afternoon and morning coffee. Spending time with his grandchildren and attending their various activities were very important to Cyril.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene of Comfrey; children, Doug (Jackie) Helget of New Ulm, Minnesota, Steve “Davis” (Chris) Helget of Springfield, Tom (Wendy) Helget of Byron, Minnesota and Barb (Jose) Nunez of Modesta, California; 10 grandchildren, Derek, Collin, Jenna, Kalley, Tori, Alex, Alexis, Ashley, Adrianna and Miguel; siblings, Ron (Bernetta) Helget of Comfrey, Myron (Marion) Helget of Shakopee, Minnesota, Arlis (Ray) Fell of Waseca, Minnesota, Jim Helget of Rochester, Minnesota and Mary Ann (Roger) Merritt of Freeborn, Minnesota.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents and baby daughter.
