THE MOUNTAIN LAKE Area (MLA) Wolverine varsity boys basketball squad suffered their first loss of the season to Cedar Mountain/Comfrey (CMC) on the first day of play in the 2016 Wolverine Holiday Tourney in the Mountain Lake Public School gymnasium on Thursday, December 29. MLA lost to the Cougars by 12, 82 to 70. A lopsided comparison of shooting percentage from the floor highlights Wolverine struggles in the game. MLA shot for 38% (29 of 75), while CMC fired for 60% (33 for 55). The Cougars also had the advantage from the free throw line, hitting 9 of 13 (69%), with MLA good on 50% of their shots from the charity stripe (7 of 14). Levi Stoesz led MLA scorers, hitting for 21 points. Stoesz also had 11 rebounds and a pair of assists. Two other Wolverines hit for double digits, Aaron Fast with 15 and Marcus Boyd with 14. Fast nabbed 19 boards, had two blocks and a steal. Boyd claimed six rebounds, had five assists, dished out two steals and had a duo of blocked shots. The loss gives the MLA boys a current 7-1 season record. Later today (Friday, December 30), the Shawn Naas-coached club is to face Legacy Christian.
