It was a clean sweep for the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine varsity girls squad of Head Coach Wayne Klassen during the 2016 MLA Holiday Tourney.
On Friday, December 30, MLA made that statement with a low-scoring 29-26 victory over Legacy Christian Academy of Andover. The previous day (Thursday, December 29), the Wolverines defeated Renville County West (RCW) by 27 points, 62 to 35.
The win gives the girls a 4-5 season record to date.
In the other girls game played on Friday, Westbrook-Walnut Grove (WWG) topped Renville County West by 20, 58 to 38.
“HANDS UP, DEFENSE.” MLA senior guard, 5’5″ Brook Sunderman (#10), right, employs that maneuver against Legacy Christian’s junior guard, Erin Bredemus (#12), left, as she sets up to run a play.
5’4″ WOLVERINE SOPHOMORE guard Taylor Naas (#33), left, slips around Legacy Christian defender, freshman guard Ariana Shank (#4), right – and on into the lane in a drive to the basket.
JEWEL SOUTTHVIONG, 5’6″ Wolverine junior forward (#14), takes a jump shot from the top of the key.
LIFE UNDER THE BASKET is push-comes-to-shove as these two forwards do battle while setting up for a potential rebound. At left, 5’7″ MLA junior Jenneel Rodney (#24), squaring off with Legacy Christian’s 6’1″ sophomore, Lindsey Smitsdorff (#35), right.
