2011-2012 MSHSL State Class A-appearing boys squad recognized
The stats for the first day of play in the 2016 Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine varsity boys and girls Holiday Tourney today (Thursday, December 29), are in the books, with the Wolverine squads splitting on the day.
Thursday’s match-up victory for the Wolverines had the girls team dominate Renville County West (Sacred Heart/Renville/Danube), with a convincing 62-35 win. They are now 3-5 on the season.
The boys suffered their first loss of the season, dropping to the Cedar Mountain/Comfrey Cougars, 82 to 70. Their record currently stands at 7-1.
Other winners from Thursday include the Legacy Christian (of Andover) girls downing Westbrook/Walnut Grove 54-41, and the Legacy boys clipping Renville County West with a half-court shot at the buzzer, 59-57.
Play continues in the Mountain Lake Public School gymnasium tomorrow afternoon (Friday, December 30), with the first tip-off at 2 p.m.
Friday’s line-up of games is as follows (games continue 25 minutes after the final buzzer of the previous game):
+ Boys – Cedar Mountain/Comfrey versus Renville County West.
+ Girls – Westbrook/Walnut Grove versus Renville County West.
+ Boys – Mountain Lake Area versus Legacy Christian.
+ Girls – Mountain Lake Area versus Legacy Christian.
Prior to the start of Thursday’s final game on the day – MLA versus Cedar Mountain/Comfrey – the 2011-2012 boys team who were competitors in the 2012 Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Class A Boys Basketball Tournament were introduced.
The team posted an overall record of 25-7, finishing 13-4 in the Red Rock Conference. They claimed the 2A Sub-Section Championship, Section 2A Championship. and placed fourth in the state tourney.
