Robert Hedman Osland passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Regina Hospital in Hastings, Minnesota.
Robert Osland was born in Tracy, Minnesota on February 29, 1940, the son of Arthur and Evelyn (Hedman) Osland. He attended Walnut Grove Schools until he finished high school and continued his education briefly at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Robert then moved back to Walnut Grove, where he took over the family farm from his father.
Robert married Charyel Lee Brown on December 30, 1961 at St. Olaf Church in Walnut Grove.
Robert was very supportive of his two boys growing up. He took pride in working with his boys on the farm and always made sure they were busy with chores. He always loved working in the spring because it gave him a fresh start after a long winter. Robert had great mechanic skills and rarely hired mechanics because he knew he could fix his equipment himself. When he wasn’t working, Robert loved spending time with his family and playing card games, especially Monopoly. He enjoyed riding his snowmobile and taking his boat out on the lake. Robert appreciated the help he received from the local retired people, other area farmers, and local businesses. Robert always emphasized the importance of education to both of his sons because it was such an important part of his own life. Robert loved supporting his children and grandchildren in all of their activities and sporting events. He also enjoyed visiting family and friends across the country and traveling with Charyel and other friends.
Robert served on the St. Olaf Church Board for many years, as well as the elevator board for the Walnut Grove/Revere Co-Op. Robert was always hands-on, compassionate, and helpful to the elderly around Walnut Grove and willing to help whenever his help was needed.
Survivors include his wife, Charyel; children, Craig (Lori) Osland and Chad (Pam) Osland; grandchildren, Blake Osland, Shannon Osland, Weston Osland and Carly Osland; siblings, Doug Osland and Mary Sibley and many other beloved friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest sister, Audrey.
