david-dickFuneral services for 98-year-old David D. Dick of St. James, Minnesota, will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, November 2, 2016 at Hosanna Free Lutheran Church in St. James with Pastor Joe Faldet officiating. The church is located at 1176 11th Street South.

Burial will follow at the Butterfield Mennonite Church Cemetery, one mile north of Butterfield on Watonwan County Road 5.

Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel, on Tuesday, November 2, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The funeral home is located at 906 10th Avenue South. A second visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

David Donald Dick passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems-St. James.

David Donald Dick was born on March 25, 1918, in Chinook, Montana, the son of John J. M. Dick and Susie (Schultz) Dick. When he was 18-months-old, the family moved from Montana to rural Mountain Lake, Minnesota. David grew up on the family farm and went to school at Bingham Lake Public School. He served in the United States Army from April 1942 until October 1945, and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. Upon his return to the area following his military service, David farmed near Lewisville, Minnesota and hauled gas for Mobil Oil for five years until moving to the Butterfield area in 1952. He farmed in that area until his retirement in 1979.

David and Estell were married in 1945, and Estell passed away in 1987. He married Fern Haseman in 1996, and she passed away in 2010.

David enjoyed woodworking, raising flowers, golfing, traveling and wintering in Arizona.

Survivors include his daughter, Norma (Ron) Solberg of Downers Grove, Illinois; step-children, Tricia (Bob) Dittrich of New Ulm, Minnesota, Barry (Nylene) Haseman of Albert Lea, Minnesota and Dean (Kristy) Haseman of Butterfield; three grandchildren, Jerry (Corrine) Solberg of Bowling Brook, Illinois, Barry Solberg of Davenport, Iowa and David (Brenda) Weaver of Round Rock, Texas; four great-grandchildren, McKenna Solberg, Cameron Solberg, Stephanie Weaver and David Weaver; two great-great-grandchildren, Celeste Youngs and Daxton Youngs; 10 step-grandchildren; 25 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Willard) Dalke of Reedley, California and many nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Rosalie (Jim) Sawatzky of Mountain Lake.

Preceding him in death were his two wives, Estell and Fern; son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Lydia; grandson, Dan; brothers, John, Fred, Henry, Pete, Willie, Jake and Abe and sisters, Tina, Sarah, Edna and Susie.
