Heritage Village of Mountain Lake recently received a $1000 check from North Star Chapter Pioneer Club of the Independent Telecommunications Pioneer Association (ITPA). On hand to present the check to Heritage Village President Mike Nelson were North Star Director John Bergman and his wife, Karen Bergman, of Cokato; North Star Secretary/Treasurer Karol Nielsen of Chanhassen and North Star President Fred Fischer of Chaska.

The North Star Chapter Pioneer Club is composed of active and retired independent telephone company employees from the states of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota. Their mission is to preserve the history, traditions and ideals of the independent telephone industry and to improve the communities, in which they live and work.

IPTA is the volunteer organization created by and for the independent telecommunications industry. Dedicated to community service, ITPA has been serving the public on behalf of telecommunications companies for over 95 years. ITPA represents over 9,000 telecommunications employees and retirees nationwide.

North Star Chapter members had visited Heritage Village – and the Telephone Museum – at an earlier time, and were so impressed by the variety of telecommunications displays from over the decades they decided to support the cause.

The Telephone Museum was originally organized by the late Henry Kliewer, former North Star Telephone Company employee, North Star Chapter Pioneer Club member and Heritage Village President.
