A cadre of Christmas decorating volunteers were on hand at Heritage Village of Mountain Lake on Thursday, October 26, to begin prepping the buildings along Memory Lane, and elsewhere around the Village, for the second annual vintage “Christmas at the Village.” This year’s holiday lights season at Heritage Village will kick off on Friday, November 24 with an evening of lights, fun and food scheduled.

The bulk of the historic buildings located on the site have either already been decorated or the light display is “in the works.” This summer, a gravel road that winds through Memory Lane was added in order to allow for traffic to get an up-close look at the colorful lights and decor.

However, four buildings are looking for decorating caretakers to complete a light-filled Heritage Village from the Mennonite House/Barn Homestead to Mountain Lake’s first depot. The quartet needing volunteers to decorate include that first (“old”) depot, the city’s last (“new”) depot, the Minnesota Telephone Museum and the Buhler Gift Shop.

Heritage Village Board members are looking for interested individuals, businesses, service groups, church groups, school groups, 4-H clubs or families to lend a hand – and perhaps begin a tradition – in the holiday decoration of the remaining buildings.

Those interested in helping to bring Christmas to the Village may contact either Miranda Stoesz at (507) 360-0647 or Sue Garloff at (507) 427-2220, by Wednesday, November 15.
