George Anacker

george anackerFuneral services for 87-year-old George Anacker of St. James, Minnesota, were held at 10:30 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, June 29, 2016) at First Lutheran Church in St. James.

Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery in rural St. James.

Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel, handled the funeral arrangements.

George Anacker passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic Health System- St. James.

George Wesley Anacker was born on February 24, 1929 in Darfur, Minnesota, the son of Richard and Cyrenna (Haska) Anacker. He served his country as a United States Army scout in the Korean War.

Upon return from the service, he married Caroline (Carol) Haler on November 9, 1952. In 1961, they adopted their daughter Joyce. They moved to Mankato, Minneosta in 1967, where he worked as head maintenance engineer until retirement in 1991.

They then returned to St. James, where they were involved with their church family at First Lutheran Church and volunteer work with the American Legion.

George enjoyed traveling, playing cards and visiting with relatives and friends. His true passion was fishing and was at peace any time he was on a lake with a pole in his hand.

Survivors include his daughter Joyce Anacker of Reno, Nevada and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline; parents, Richard and Cyrenna Anacker and siblings, Alfred, Albert, Edward and Irene.
