Noon lunch at McDonalds caps last day of school

Annette Kunkel’s 6th-grade class tops MLES with 80 pounds worth of pop top tabs

2016 pop top tabs winning class
THE ANNUAL POP top tab weigh-in was held at Mountain Lake Public Elementary School (MLES), with Annette Kunkel’s 6th-grade class topping the elementary scales with a tally of 80 pounds. That meant noon lunch at McDonalds in Windom as a last day of school treat on Wednesday, May 25. This year -2016 – marks the 14th year of the Ronald McDonald House pop tab program. Across the nation, pop top tabs are collected and turned in to cash to help support moms and dads who stay in a Ronald McDonald House anywhere in the United States, their home-away-from home while their children are in the hospital. Currently Amanda Korns, a paraprofessional at Mountain Lake Public School, and infant son are in Rochester, and she is staying at a the Ronald McDonald House in that city. It is hoped that Penny Raia, from the McDonalds in Windom, will designate the MLES pop top tab money to that Rochester home. In addition, MLES staff members have made several fleece tie blankets to donate the the Ronald McDonald House. The project at MLES is sponsored by the MLES Student Council, witih Kunkel and Amy Hartzler as co-advisors.
