Bode Lloyd, two others were fishing in Crawford Pond near Dow City, Iowa

From information obtained from KETV of Omaha, Nebraska and the Omaha World-News:
An 18-year-old man, Bode Lloyd of Kiron, Iowa, formerly of Mountain Lake, drowned Sunday afternoon, March 20, while fishing with two friends in Crawford Pond near Dow City, Iowa, approximately one hour northeast of Omaha, Nebraska.
Three teenagers, including Lloyd, were fishing in the pond when their boat overturned for unknown reasons and they were thrown into the 30-degree Fahrenheit water. Two of the teens were able to swim to shore. Those teens, Bradley Meeves, age 18 and Isaac Deveraux, age 19, made several attempts to help Lloyd to the shore, but could not. Lloyd had just turned 18.
According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the incident was reported at 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. It took Carroll, Iowa and Denison, Iowa dive teams three hours before his body was recovered from the 12-foot-deep pond at approximately 6:30 p.m. Law enforcement officials used radar to find his body because of the murkiness of the pond due to transitioning seasons and runoff.
The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources
Lloyd’s mother and stepfather, Suzanne and Jesse Koetzle, along with a half-sister, Elizabeth Koetzle and a half-brother, Tanner Koetzle, live in Mountain Lake.
