Wolverines boys’ game downs Knights

Win opening basketball tourney game by 15

The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine boys basketball squad MLA, under Head Coach Shawn Naas, claimed a pigtail round victory over the visiting Alden-Conger (A-C) Knights, 54 to 39.

The Sub-Section South 2A seventh-seed claimed a nine-point halftime margin, 29 to 20 over #10-seed A-C, and continued in the second half to grind out the win.

Leading the scoring brigade was junior guard Levi Stoesz, lacing the nets for 24 points. He also grabbed five rebounds. Another junior, forward Aaron Fast, tossed in 10 points and pulled down five boards. Ryan McCue, senior guard, scored seven points, dished out five assists and nabbed five steals.

The Knights, finishing the year at 4-19, were lead by Jacob Wallin’s 13 points and 12 rebounds.

MLA’s season record is now 18-6.

 

They now face Springfield (19-6), the South Sub-Section 2A #2 seed, on Monday, February 23, at Springfield, beginning at 7 p.m. The top seed in South Sub-Section 2A is St. Clair (18-6)
