THE MOUNTAIN LAKE Area (MLA) Wolverines Varsity Girls Basketball squad held only a four-point lead at the half of their Friday night, February 19 home game against Westbrook-Walnut Grove – 27 to 23 – but pulled away from their Red Rock Conference foes in the second half. At the final buzzer, MLA had claimed another conference win, a 12-point victory, 51 to 39. Senior guard Signey Stoesz closed with 19 points, teamed with 10 rebounds and four steals. Brook Sunderman, junior guard, chipped in nine points and six boards, while sophomore forward Marta Stoesz also added nine tallies. Head Coach Wayne Klassen’s club is now 13-8 overall, 10-5 in the conference, with one game remaining in the regular season. That game will be a home non-conference contest Madelia on Monday, February 22. Plans are being made to salute and support “Madelia Strong,” following the recent fire that devastated the city’s main street.
