MLC Speech Team competes at RV Invite

Raabe champ in Humorous; Lohrenz, Smith each seventh in their categories

THE REDWOOD VALLEY High School Speech Invitational in Redwood Falls was the on the agenda for members of the Mountain Lake Christian (MLC) Speech Team on Saturday, February 13. Senior Josh Raabe received the champion medal in Humorous, earning a score 1-1-1 in his three rounds of competition. Another senior, Melissa Lohrenz of Mountain Lake, was recognized with a seventh-place ribbon in Drama and a seventh-grader, Zoey Smith of St. James, was also honored with a seventh-place ribbon in her category of Great Speeches. Others participating in the meet included a trio of seventh-graders, all of Butterfield: Sara Quiring in Serious Prose, Jack Lepp in Humorous and Elizabeth Linscheid in Original Oratory. There were 18 schools competing in the tourney with more than 250 individual entries. The team’s Head Coach is Kim Friesen of Windom, with Elijah Stoesz of Mountain Lake the Assistant Coach.
