Scam text related to Fulda Area Credit Union hits area
A new scam has hit this area in the form of a phishing text claiming to be from the Fulda Area Credit Union – as seen above. (Phishing is the attempt to gain sensitive information- such as usernames, passwords and credit card details (and sometimes, indirectly, money), often for malicious reasons, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication.) Verizon cellular customers with – and without – accounts at the financial institution have been receiving texts regarding their account.
The text asks the reader to click a link to be taken to their account. Area law enforcement agencies advise recipients to delete the message and DO NOT click on any link in the text. If you have clicked on the link, contact local law enforcement immediately.
Laura Honken, vice president of operations for Fulda Area Credit Union says anyone who is a member, and who has clicked on the link, should contact 1-800-523-4175 to receive immediate assistance. Any suspicious account activity should also be reported to the credit union as well.
