Top host RRC – previously-unbeaten in conference – by seven
THE MOUNTAIN LAKE Area (MLA) Wolverines Varsity Girls Basketball squad, under Head Coach Wayne Klassen, took their “A” game to Lamberton to face previously-unbeaten in the Red Rock Conference Red Rock Central (RRC). They left to return to Mountain Lake with a seven-point win, 60 to 53. Although the host Falcons stormed in front early, 8-0, the Wolverines didn’t fold; instead fought their back back. At the half, they were in front by one, 27 to 26. The game was tied with six minutes remaining, but the Wolverines re-established their game plan – and the lead. Senior guard Signey Stoesz singed the nets for 29 points, and added six steals. Another senior, forward Bailey Swanson, tallied nine points, and junior center Liana Blomgren grabbed 10 boards. MLA advances to 11-8 overall and 8-5 in the conference tilt. On Tuesday, February 16, the Wolverine girls continue conference play, hosting Heron Lake-Okabena. Another Red Rock foe, Westbrook/Walnut Grove is in town on Friday, February 19. They close out their regular season with a non-conference game at home with Madelia on Monday, February 22.
