Cobra Tri at Mountain Lake turns into dual against the Vikings
IT ORIGINALLY WAS to be a Cobra Triangular meet for the Windom/Mountain Lake (W/ML) Cobra Varsity Wrestlers on Tuesday, January 12, but it turned into a dual against the Minneota Vikings. The young Cobra squad had a big task ahead of them against their perennial powerhouse guests, and in the end, dropped a 54-9 decision. The Vikings are the defending Minnesota State Class A Champions – and have the #1 ranking in the state this year, according to the wrestling newspaper, “The Guillotine.” W/ML held a temporary lead at 6-5 when 113-pounder Hunter Ekstrom won by forfeit. A win by Minneota at 120 pounds started a string of six straight wins for Minneota. Yanick Tade stopped that string, earning a tough 7-5 decision at 160 pounds over Kolin Drietz. The wrestlers travel to Marshall for a meet on Thursday, January 14, and on Saturday, January 16, are in Lake Crystal for the Lake Crystal/Wellcome Memorial Tourament. There will be a Cobra Tri Meet in Windom on Tuesday, January 19.
