Pipestone Area wrestling to represent Section 3A at state

Cobras lose to Minneota in semi-finals

 

 

In the early afternoon Sectioin 3A Team Wrestling semi-finals at Pipestone today (Saturday, February 18), the Windom/Mountain Lake (W/ML) Cobra wrestlers stretched out the match, but fell to Minneota, 40 to 21.

Winning for MLA in the loss were:

  • Brett Willaby at 106 with a major decision.
  • Zachary Spinks at 126 with a 6-5 decision.
  • Alex Borsgard, at 132, defeated Mark Laleman,
  • Jeff Wright defeated Kyle Banks at 160 with an 803 decision.
  • Jabari Carlton pinned Everett VanHecke in 5:01 at 195 pounds

In the other semi-final match, Pipestone Area defeated Canby, 42 to 24.

Pipestone went on to win the Section 3A team championship over Minneota later in the afternoon by a score of 33-29. It is the first time in the school’s history that the Arrows have earned a team trip to state wrestling.

The Section 3A individual wrestling tourney will be held at Jackson County Central on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25.

The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Wrestling Tournament – team and individual – will run from Thursday, March 2 through Saturday, March 4, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
