Funeral services for 74-year-old Elton Schade of Comfrey, Minnesota, formerly of Elmwood, Tennessee, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2015, at Sturm Funeral Home-Sleepy Eye Chapel, located at 301 3rd Avenue S. W. in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home the day of the services from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
Elton Schade passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, at Sleepy Eye Hospital after a courageous, several-year battle with lung cancer.
Elton Henry Schade was born on June 5, 1941 in Springfield, Minnesota, the son of Jasper and Fredina (Thompson) Schade. After school, he moved to Oregon and worked in an aluminum plant. He then moved to Ruthton, Minnesota.
On September 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Linda Redlinger in Lake Benton, Minnesota.
Elton worked as a commercial painting contractor and raised many breeds of dogs. He lived in Florida for a few years before settling in Elmwood on a scenic hillside farm and continued raising dogs in that location.
Elton enjoyed traveling the entire United States, visiting people and going to the Renaissance Festival. He also enjoyed making glass molds, raising flowers, playing games and puzzles, and his dog, Treasure. Elton was a kind, loving, caring person that was well-liked by everyone who met him.
He is survived by his significant other, Marcia Weber of Comfrey; his daughter, Paula (Alvin) Knox of Cookeville, Tennessee; his sons, Mark Schade and special friend Elizabeth Ellston of Bozeman, Montana and son, Jason (Joy) Schade of Elkview, West Virginia; a sister, Connie (Jerry) McClune of Waseca, Minnesota and grandchildren, Dan, Justine, Ivy, Caleb, Autumn, Sam, Jessica, Hannah and Katlin.
Elton was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Linda.
