Big first half propels Wolverine boys to win

Hold off RCW Jaguars in second for 12-point win

A WHOPPING 53 points were tallied by the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine Varsity Boys Basketball club as they pulled out all the stops from having to wait a day to get on their home court to play, advancing to an 85-73 win over the Renville County West (RCW) Jaguars. The snowy weather postponed play a day, from Monday to Tuesday, December 29. At the half, MLA was on top, 53-27. The Jaguars scratched their way back in the second half, but the Wolverines hung on for the 12-point win. Junior Levi Stoesz had 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Wolverines. Senior Ryan McCue notched 14 points, seven boards and five steals. junior Aaron Fast laced the nets for 13 and sophomore scored eight. The Shawn Naas-coached squad is now 6-3, and next up is a Tuesday, January 5 contest at Okabena against Heron Lake-Okabena.
