This morning the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced that this afternoon (Friday, October 30) motorists would be driving on the new eastbound lanes of Minnesota State Highway #60 from Mountain Lake to Butterfield. And they are!

However, for the next few days the westbound lanes will be restricted to one lane with no passing as crews complete the new pavement markings.  Eastbound motorists are also advised caution as seeding the shoulders requires a minor traffic restriction.

The project, which was delayed due to contractor schedule problems, included grading, paving, concrete repair and lighting of two additional lanes to expand Highway 60 to a four-lane facility. It was originally expected to be completed on Friday, October 2.

Mathiowetz Construction of Sleepy Eye was awarded the contract with a bid of $12,424,000.

This is the second of three projects planned to complete the expansion of Highway 60 to a four-lane facility.  The section from Mountain Lake to Windom is planned to begin in 2017.  For more project information and a detour map, visit www.dot.state.mn.us/d7/projects/hwy60stjames/ .
