Windom man arrested after 13-hour standoff

Following a 13-hour standoff with law enforcement officials from Monday night, September 28 to Tuesday morning, September 29, a Windom man was eventually taken into custody on suspicion of Terroristic Threats.

According to a press lease from the Windom Police Department, “On 09/28/15, at approximately 10:33 p.m., the Windom Police Department was dispatched in regards to a loud music complaint. As officers approached the dwelling, the occupant of the home directed threats towards them. Officers withdrew from the front of the residence and surrounded the home.

“The Multi-Jurisdictional High Risk Arrest and Entry Team (H.E.A.T.) – comprised of officers from both Iowa and Minnesota – were contacted by the Windom Police Department to provide assistance in handling the incident.

“At approximately 11:30 a.m. on 09/29/15, the entry team gained access to the residence and located the male occupant inside of the residence. He was then taken into custody.

“Michael Scott Thompson, 44, of Windom, was arrested on suspicion of Terroristic Threats. He was transported to the Cottonwood County Jail by the Windom Police Department, where he awaits his initial appearance before a judge.”

Also assisting the Windom Police Department were the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Lake Police Department, Minnesota State Highway Patrol, Windom Ambulance and the Windom Fire Department.
