+ According to the Worthington Daily Globe, the sought-after accident “Good Samaritan” has been identified. The newspaper identified the motorist who provided assistance to a Minnesota State Highway Patrol trooper to rescue a semi-truck driver from his cab as it burst into flames is a rural Worthington man, Paul Langseth.

Heroic actions deserve recognition.

To that end, the Minnesota State Highway Patrol (MSHP) is looking for a motorist who helped a trooper pull a semi-truck driver out of his burning cab to safety on Monday afternoon, August 31, near Heron Lake.

The trooper was holding traffic for a funeral procession on Minnesota State Highway #60 at 400th Avenue in Windom when the semi-truck driver failed to stop for traffic and rear-ended another stopped semi, both of whom were traveling east on #60.

With the striking semi in flames, the trooper and the “Good Samaritan” ran to the burning truck and pulled the driver to safety.

The driver of that semi-truck, 49-year-old Michael L. Junker of Trimont, is in Sanford Hospital-Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The driver of the semi that was rear-ended, Michael G. Schultz, 54, of Lake Crystal, had no apparent injuries.

Thanks to the actions of the trooper – and that unknown “Good Samaritan” – the truck driver is recovering from significant, but non-life threatening injuries.

The trooper believes he would not have been able to rescue the injured semi-truck driver without the help of the “Good Samaritan.”

The State Patrol wants to find and recognize the man for his heroic actions.

Anyone with information should contact the Marshall District office at 507-476-4020.
