Funeral Mass for Richard “Dick” Feser, 84, of Sleepy Eye , Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, September 4, 2015, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. The church is located at 112 West Van Dusen.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Sturm Funeral Home-Springfield Chapel, located at 407 North Jackson. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:3o a.m.
Richard passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Countryside Apartments in Sleepy Eye.
Richard Peter Alois Feser was born March 30, 1931 in Glen Ullin, North Dakota, the son of Max and Elizabeth (Thiel) Feser. He graduated high school in 1949 and served in the National Guard.
In 1951, Dick graduated from the North Dakota State School of Science Electrical Program. In 1952, he moved to Springfield and was the Plant Superintendent for the Western Telephone Company. Dick owned Feser Contracting, a multi-facet contracting business, from 1968-2012. He was instrumental in the building of the cable TV and cell phone tower in Springfield.
On June 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Gladys Schmitz.
He served as the area volunteer weather observer for the National Weather Service from 1964-2014, for which he received the Thomas Jefferson Award in 2007. Dick also was the local firearms instructor for over 50 years. He was a member of Rotary Club for 57 years and Knights of Columbus and St. Raphael Catholic Church, both for 50 years.
Dick was an avid hunter, fisher and trapper. He collected knives, guns, phones, arrowheads, stamps and coins, and was a machining craftsman. His support of the community was unending; he was generous with his time, talents and treasures.
He is survived by his spouse, Gladys; six children, 23 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren – Allan (Arlis) Feser and daughters, Niki (Josh) Baklund and son Javan Olmscheid, and Sondra (Bryan) Moeller; Terese (Daniel) Hall and sons, Jeremy (Kimberly) Hall and children Dylan, Mataya, and Makinley, Andrew Hall, Anthony Hall, and Michael (Angela) Hall and daughters Addyson and Makiah; Joyce (Steve) Maras and children, Angela (Tim) Hoekman and children Isaiah, Annaliese, and Tobiah; Lindsay (Bill) Sunde and children, Willem, Lily, Willard and Layne; Krystal (Craig) Pederson and daughters, Camille and Hazel; Kathryn (Jesse) Hohm and daughters, Elaina, Alexandra, Audri, and Elizabeth; Jacob (Emily) Maras and son, Ezra, and Alison (Kyle) Thyen and daughter, Lucia; Duane (Deb) Feser and children, Nicholas (Stacey) Feser and children Grace, Brennan, and Addison, Chelsie (Brandon) Lang and children Zacharia and Maliah, Brittany (Jon) Heinz, Danielle (Tyler Nelson) Feser and Colby Feser; Mary (Dan) Tauer and children, Marisa (Nathan) Silbernagel and daughter Sutton Olivia, Stephanie Tauer; Bryant (Sandy) Tauer, Elizabeth Tauer; Dan (Heidi) Feser and children, Lucas and Alana Feser; brothers, Rick (Alice), Clarence (Pat), Arden (Donna) Feser and sister-in-law Phyllis Feser.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Elizabeth Feser; daughter, Ann Marie (1964); brother, Adrian Feser and sister Marilyn (Lloyd) Lammer.
The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Springfield area charity or local foundation.
