Friday afternoon’s MLES concert music focuses on getting healthy

Students will share about healthy activities, healthy choices

musicThe classes at Mountain Lake Public Elementary School (MLES) will present their final concert of this school year with the spring music program on Friday, May 8, beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the school’s auditorium.

Students in grades kindergarten-through-six – along with the fifth- and sixth-grade bands – will share music on healthy activities and healthy choices under the theme, “Let’s Get Healthy.”

The first grade will sing a song in Spanish, while the sixth grade will perform a Maori proverb from New Zealand. The fourth and fifth grades will present two songs commemorating the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, and the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. In addition, fourth grade students will share Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” on recorders.

The elementary bands will play a variety of numbers spanning centuries of music and composers – from Haydn in the 1700s to numbers entitled “Hard Rock Blues” and “The Flintstones Meet the Jetsons.”

The music directors for the program are Christine Johnson (grades kindergarten-to-five), Andrea Brinkman (grade six) and Kurt Jahnke (fifth and sixth grade bands).
