MLPS celebrating 30th annual Music in Our Schools Month during March

Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) – as coordinated by the high school’s Haydn to Hip Hop class, along with music instructor and vocal director Andrea Brinkman, are celebrating a musical March along with the 30th annual Music in Our Schools Month, part of the National Association for Music (NAfME) program. The goals of the month are to honor and celebrate music education within schools under the theme, “Music Makes Me!”

High points of the month will include:

* Haydn to Hip Hop class editing a music video involving the entire MLPS K-12 study body that is set to premiere at the end of the month. It will commemorate the month of music at MLPS.

* A Haydn to Hip Hop class visit to the HSRA (High School for Recording Arts) in St. Paul on Wednesday, March 25 as part of an on-going collaboration with the school.

* The class will also sponsor the 2nd Annual MLPS Student Talent Show on Friday, March 27, at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. A free will donation will be collected upon entry. Funds raised will go towards a student trip for the students in the Haydn to Hip Hop class. Any student in grades 7-12 may enter a talent. Sign up is with Mrs. Brinkman. Cash prizes will be $75 for first place, $50 for second place and $25 for third place. Students are encouraged to participate. In addition, the night will feature a “Clash of the Classes,” a competition between each high school class to showcase themselves with a lip sync, skit, dance, etc. The class to win the “Clash of the Classes” will earn COTY (Class of the Year) points and a class prize. Three Mountain Lake community members will serve as judges at the student talent show.

* MORP Dance on Saturday, March 28 in the school cafeteria; 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. for grades 6-8 and 9 p.m. to midnight for grades 9-12. Cost is $3 per student or $5 per couple.

* Additional weekly COTY activities.

Other musical moments during the month will be :

* Senior High Band/Senior High Choir Large Group Contest on Wednesday, March 11.

* Junior High/Senior High Band and Choir Concert on Monday, March 16, beginning at 7 p.m., in the school auditorium.
