Two Butterfield residents are fatalities in one-vehicle accident

Lowell, Sharon Asplund identified as those involved

The Minnesota State Highway Patrol reports that two Butterfield residents, a husband and wife, Lowell Asplund, 73 and Sharon Asplund, 74, were killed in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 10:01 a.m. on Friday, February 6, in Yellow Medicine County. That crash site was at Milepost 43 on Highway #67.

According to the report, a 2012 Dodge Durango, driven by Lowell Asplund, was northbound on Highway #67 when it left the roadway, traveled through a fence and collided with a tree. Both were reported deceased at the scene. The Durango was totaled.

Assisting the Minnesota State Highway Patrol at the scene were the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, Upper Sioux Police Department, Echo Fire and Rescue and the Granite Falls Ambulance.

Lowell Asplund is a pastor at First Lutheran/Long Lake Lutheran Churches of Butterfield and Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Darfur.
