MLC orators speak out at Worthington Trojan Speech Invite

All five team members competing received awards, three of those who double-entered recognized in both categories

The Mountain Lake Christian (MLC) High Speech Team sent five competitors to the Worthington Trojan Speech Invitational, held this past Saturday, February 7. All five of the orators received awards, including three double-entered team members who were recognized in both categories. This was the team’s first meet of the regular speech season.

The five MLC team members compiled 44 points, earning their way to a 7th-place finish out of the 22 competing schools. More than 350 orators were registered in the contest.

Individual results were as follows:

* Caitlyn Smith, senior from St. James – 1st-place in Poetry and blue ribbon in Prose.

* Elijah Stoesz, senior from Mountain Lake – 2nd-place in Original Oratory and 3rd-place in Informative.

* Joash Raabe, junior from Mountain Lake – 1st-place in Humorous.

* Melissa Lohrenz, junior from Mountain Lake – 6th-place in Original Oratory and red ribbon in Poetry.

* Katelyn Fast, sophomore from Mountain Lake – Red ribbon in Prose.

The MLC Speech Team will compete this Saturday, February 14, at a meet at Redwood Valley Public High School in Redwood Falls.
