Funeral Mass for 86-year-old Irene Becker of Springfield, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning, March 2, 2015, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. The church is located at 112 West Van Dusen.
Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Father Phil Schotzko will officiate at the services.
Visitation will be held at Sturm Funeral Home-Springfield Chapel, on Sunday, March 1, 2015, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral home is located at 401 North Jackson. A second visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Irene Edith Becker was on born August 8, 1928, in Bethel Hospital in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Thoburn and Bessie (Beach) Allen.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Becker on December 12, 1946 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church Parsonage in Comfrey, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Springfield until 1949 when they moved to Wabasso, Clements, Morgan, Melrose, and then Sauk Center, all of Minnesota, where she worked for Swift and Company. They returned to Springfield in 1965 and Irene worked for 3M in New Ulm, Minneosta for 17 years. While in Springfield, she worked at the Rainbow Cafe, drove school bus, babysat for various families, and bartended and waitressed at the Legion for 30 years.
Irene was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as president three times and held other offices. She also drove the Heartland Express for 10 years.
Her hobbies included reading, sewing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed trips with the Mystery Tour Bus and dancing.
She is survived by her children, Sandy Guggisberg of Windom, Minnesota, Janet (Doug) Broten of Mountain Lake, Sharon (Paul) Donnay of Lafayette, Minnesota, Kathleen Becker of Crystal, Minnesota, Larry Becker of New Ulm, and Lori (Randy) Meidl of Springfield; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Edith) Allen of Shakopee, Minnesota and Louis (Carolyn) Allen of Mankato, Minnesota and a sister-in-law Marge Allen of Mapleton, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene in 1978; son, Robert; grandchildren, Lucas and Alyssa; daughter-in-law, Sherri Becker; and brother, Lynn Allen.
