Icy roads lead to Wednesday morning accident

Joan Eischen of Comfrey is fatally injured

Fifty-seven-year-old Joan Eischen of Comfey was fatally injured in a vehicle car/semi truck accident at 8:53 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, January 21) on Brown County Road #16, south of 140th Street. Icy road conditions were noted at the time of the accident.

According to the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, Eischen, driving a 2001 Cadillac DeVille, was traveling north on Brown #16, while a 2001 Mack truck, driven by Michael Lux, 60, of Sleepy Eye, was heading south on #16. The Cadillac lost control on the concrete two-lane roadway and slid sideways into the oncoming lane, hitting the Mack head-on.

Eischen was taken by Springfield Ambulance to Springfield Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Lux had no apparent injury.

The Cadillac was totaled, while the Mack had no damage reported.

Additionally assisting at the scene was the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.
