Elin Johnson passed away on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 27, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, surrounded by her children.

Elin was born January 27, 1927 in rural St. James, the daughter of Otto and Alfrida Nelson and was baptized and confirmed at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church in rural St. James. She attended Becks Country School, Armstrong Elementary in St. James and St. James Public High School.

She was united in marriage to Harold Johnson on July 10, 1954.

Elin enjoyed gardening, embroidery, sewing, scenic drives, coffee with friends, associations through church and her many subscriptions to women’s magazines. Her many pets over the years provided much support and enjoyment to her.

She resided at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield for the past four-and-a-half years. Their exemplary care was paramount in her great quality of life. She loved and respected St. John’s fine nursing assistants, nurses of 2 North and support staff.

Her hard work ethic brought her too many kinds of employment. Nearly two decades as the laundress at Comfrey Public School provided the most enjoyment. She cherished the friendships built through her interaction with all the students, associates and faculty. She loved her extended school family.

Elin was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Harold, who passed on in 2010; her parents and many siblings.

She is survived by her five children, Gene (Concei) Nelson of Mason City, Iowa, Douglas (Mary) Johnson of Westminster, Colorado, Diane (Michael Walker) Britto of Lafayette, California, Donovan Johnson of Comfrey and Steven Johnson of Comfrey; her grandchildren, Garrett Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Shannon Nelson of Iowa City, Iowa, Gene Nelson, Jr. of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mitchell Britto of Newport Beach, California and Emily Johnson Kauffmann of Westminster, Colorado and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Kauffmann.

Elin lived a life that brought joy to all who knew her. Elin was always willing to extend a helping hand if she saw a need, provide support where it could be utilized and loved the simple pleasures that a small town and warm friends provided. She will be sorely missed by those that knew and loved her.
