#71/#30 intersection site of Saturday afternoon collision

A two-vehicle broadside accident, involving four individuals, occurred at 12:47 p.m., on Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the intersection of Highway #71 and Highway #30, east of Jeffers, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to the vehicles’ occupants.

According to the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling northbound on Highway #71 when a 1999 Toyota Camry, traveling westbound on Highway #30, began to cross Highway #71. The Tahoe attempted to avoid a crash by swerving into the southbound lane, but the two cars ended up colliding.

The Tahoe rolled into the southbound ditch on Highway #71, ending up on its roof. The Camry spun and came to rest on the southbound shoulder.

The driver of the Tahoe, 33-year-old Charles J. Stephany of LeMars, Iowa, along with the vehicles’ two passengers, Ericka A. Stephany of Hinton, Iowa and infant August J. Stephany of unknown city in Iowa; as well as the driver of the Camry, 31-year-old Ann M. Pedersen of Shoreview, Minnesota, were transported to Windom Area Hospital by the Windom Ambulance Squad with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the accident scene.
