Wolverines end season with seven-point loss to Springfield

Tigers to face CM/C in Section 2A title tilt

 

THE MOUNTAIN LAKE Area (MLA) Boys Basketball squad, under Head Coach Shawn Naas, battled valiantly in the second half of the Section 2A South Sub-Section Championship game against the Springfield Tigers at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter last night (Monday, February 13), but lost by seven, 91 to 84. The Tigers sported a scoring spurt at the end of the first half to claim an 11-point margin at the break, 45 to 34. In the second half, the Tigers at one pont widened the gap, but the Wolverines kept chipping away, pulling to within eight. Senior Sam Grev scored the final points of the MLA boys’ 2016-2017 season, hitting a three as the tick-tock ticked down. The Wolverines end the season with a 19-10 overall record. Springfield, 27-2, was the #1-seed in the South Sub-Section, with MLA seeded second. The Tigers advance to play Cedar Mountain/Comfrey (CM/C) in the Section 2A Championship game this Friday, March 17, at Minnesota State University-Mankato. It wiill be the early game of the night with a 6 p.m. tip-off. CM/C defeated Cleveland, 70 to 50 in late game at Gustavus. C/MC (27-2) was the top seed in the North, with Cleveland, the second-seed.
