MLPS to start classes after Labor Day

Special school-related events coming up this week

In a departure from the previous six years, classes at Mountain Lake Public School will return to an after-Labor Day start date. During those previous years students had headed back to the classroom  two weeks before Labor Day as part of FLY (Flexible Learning Year).

This year, students in grades K-12 will have a full day of school on Tuesday, September 6.

Staff workshops will run from Monday, April 29 through Friday, September 2.

Prior to the start of the 2016-2017 school year, a series of important events will be held.

These include:

+ Monday, August 29 – Discovery Preschool Parent Orientation, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Mountain Lake Public Elementary School Library.

+ Wednesday, August 31 – Grades 8-12 Student Registration, 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Mountain Lake Public High School Office.

+ Wednesday, August 31 – Mountain Lake Public Elementary School Welcome Back Open House, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

+ Wednesday, August 31 – 7th Grade Orientation, 5:3o p.m. to 7 p.m.

New staff members are:

+ High School Principal Michelle Larson.

+ Activities Director/Physical Education Teacher Luke Winger.

+ High School Math Teacher Spenser Kipfer.

+ Elementary School Second Grade Teacher Mikkala Hup,

+ Elementary Music Teacher Sarah Tailowright.

In other changes:

+ Jody Lepp returns as High School Counselor.

+ Nate Brinkman moves to Fifth Grade Teacher.

+ Pamela Anderson moves to Fourth Grade Teacher.

+ Joan Raabe moves to Second Grade Teacher.

+ Martha Standerwick moves to Title 1 Teacher.

New paraprofessionals are Brianna Friesen, Colleen Johnson, Sarah Mendoza and Tammy Watkins.
