MLPS School Board hires new high school mathematics teacher

The Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) School Board approved the resignation of Pamela Anderson as 7-12 high school principal, effective at the end of the current 2015-2016 school year. They took this action as part of their Monday, April 18 regular monthly meeting agenda.

Anderson will return to teach in Mountain Lake Public Elementary School (MLES). Prior to becoming high school principal, Anderson had served the MLPS School District in MLES as a sixth-grade teacher, fourth-/fifth-grade multi-age teacher and as lead teacher/elementary principal.

MLPS Board Chair Doug Standerwick thanked Anderson for her many years of service to the district.

Spencer Kipfer on board as high school mathematics teacher

Board members also approved the hiring of Spencer Kipfer as a high school mathematics teacher, at a rate of $34,200 BA Step 2, for the 2016-2017 school year.

Kipfer was also named as a junior high softball coach, at a rate of $2,400, for the 2015-2016 calendar year.

In other business

+ Approved the 2016-2017 lunch price increase of 10 cents, 5 cents for milk and universal free breakfast for grades Pre-K-12 on a split vote. Voting in favor were Standerwick, Board Vice-Chair Tim Swoboda and Board Directors Chad Pedersen and Matt Gohr. Against the motion were Board Treasurer Pam Hoek and Board Clerk Julie Brugman. Board Director Tom Fast was absent from the meeting.

+ Approved the list of 2015-2016 Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) diploma candidates for graduation on Friday, May 27, at 7 p.m., in the school’s auditorium.

+ Approved the non-certified employees union contract.

+ Purchased a 2012 Chevrolet Impala from Town’s Edge Auto of Mountain Lake as a drivers training vehicle at a price of $11,090.

+ Accepted the resignation of paraprofessional Jenn Shouse-Klassen, effective April 2, 2016.

+ Named Shawn Naas as the summer recreational supervisor at a rate of $2,000.

+ Approved the 2015-2016 contract with Eide Bailly, certified public accounting, tax and business and financial advisory firm of Mankato. The contract stipulates that the rate not exceed $15,600. Standerwick, Swoboda, Gohr, Hoek and Brugman voted in approval, with Pedersen in dissent.

+ Hired part-time summer custodians at a rate of $9.60 per hour. The hirees include Michael Watkins, Ashley Watkins, Jeff Wright, Linda Nesmoe, Brianna Wolff, Lydia Wallert, Adam Blomgren, Jared Willaby and Austin Wallert.

+ Approved the summer project list, while authorizing budgetary discretion to MLPS Superintendent Bill Strom as to which projects will be completed.

+ Approved wage increases for employees of Town and Country Daycare, effective Friday, July 1.

+ Standerwick closed the meeting at 8:43 p.m. under Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA) Policy 205-Closed Meeting Law, STATUTE SECTION 13D.05, to discuss negotiations strategy. He reopened the meeting at 9:04 p.m., with no action taken or information provided.
