MLPS School Board continues with certified, non-certified staff negotiations

The Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) School Board Negotiations Committee reported on meetings the group has had at the Monday, March 21 school board meeting.

The committee met with certified staff negotiators on Wednesday morning, March 23, and will convene with non-certified staff negotiators on Thursday morning, March 31

Elementary Music Teacher post is filled

Board members unanimously approved the hiring of Sarah Cartwright of Windom as Mountain Lake Public Elementary School Music Teacher at a rate of $39,200 MA Step 3.

In other business

+ Approved the resignation of Mountain Lake Public Elementary School second-grade teacher Kristine Friesen, thanking her for her many years and service to the Mountain Lake Public School District.

+ Approved the resignation of Marilyn Fast as Mountain Lake Public Elementary School Music Teacher, thanking her for helping the school district in a time of need for the 2015-2016 school year.

+ Approved the status change of Mountain Lake Public School Custodian Bob Jass from part-time to full-time.

+ Gave authority to MLPS Superintendent Bill Strom to get quotes on the possible addition of a new driver’s education vehicle. The school district will obtain quotes on a 10-passenger van, car and a caravan.

+ Learned that the Building Committee had met on Tuesday, March 15, and will meet again on Thursday, March 24, at 6 p.m. in Room #1 of Mountain Lake Public High School. Board Member Matt Gohr reported on the March 15 meeting.

+ Approved the 2016-2017 Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (SWWC) contracts as presented.

+ Initially approved the Eide Bailly (accounting firm) contract as presented. School Board Treasurer Pam Hoek and School Board Clerk Julie Brugman then withdrew their motion, tabling that action until the April 2016 board meeting.

+ Approved Superintendent Strom gathering quotes on other possible accounting firms.

+ Approved the hiring of Jeff Wright and Jorja Lepp as part-time student custodians at a rate of $9 per hour.
