THE HOST WINDOM/Mountain Lake (W/ML) Cobra wrestlers hosted a triangular meet against Pipestone and Redwood River Valley (RRV) on Tuesday, January 19, and it was a tough night of wrestling for the team. The Arrows downed the Cobras, 55 to 12 and RRV took the win, 47 to 18. In the Pipestone match-up, with the Arrows holding a 9 to 0 margin, two of the top wrestlers on both squads matched up at 120 and 126. At 120, Pipestone’s Hunter Burnett outlasted the Cobras’ Zach Spinks for an 11-5 decision. Michael Suda of the Arrows faced off at 126 with W/ML’s Alex Borsgard, with Suda held an 8-to-4 decision at the end. At 132, Evan Wiens got the Cobras on the board with a pin, but Pipestone Area had six straight weight wins to extend their margin. Julio Gutierrez for W/ML nailed a fall at 220, but the match had already been decided. For the Cobras in the RRV match, Kade Sammons got a 15-0 technical fall for the Cobras at 106 pounds. A major decision for Borsgard (126) followed by Wiens’ (132) second fall of the night put them on top 15-4. However, a 15-8 decision by Yanick Tade at 152 was W/ML’s only win the rest of the match. Adrian will be in Windom on Thursday, January 21 for a dual meet and on Tuesday, January 26, the Cobras will be participating in the St. James Triangular.
