Clippers edge out MLA, 35-26
Head Coach Tim Kirk’s Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverines Varsity 9-Man Football team hosted the Cleveland/Immanuel Lutheran Clippers for the 2015 Homecoming game, but came up short, losing their second game of the season. Final score was Cleveland 35, MLA 26.
The squad is now 5-2 on the season.
Here’s the rundown on the game’s scoring:
+ Cleveland up 7-0 after a 90-yard fumble return for a touchdown by the Clippers’ Brock Arndt. (Extra point kick was good.)
+ Cleveland goes up 14-0 on a 25-yard run by Eli Anderson. (Extra point kick was good.)
+ MLA gets on the board; 50-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Levi Stoesz. (Two-point conversion a success.) Cleveland 14, MLA, 8.
+ Cleveland moves to 21-8 with a touchdown pass from Clipper quarterback Kopet to Piotter. (Extra point kick was good.)
+ Wolverines pull to within seven at 21-14 on a 67-yard pass from Stoesz to senior halfback/wide receiver Chris Boyd. (Two-point conversion fails.)
+ Cleveland returns fire with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Kopet to Zishka. (Extra point kick was good.) Clippers up 28-14.
+ A 22-yard touchdown pass from Boyd to senior tight end Ian Glassic. (Two-point conversion fails.) Cleveland on top, 28-20.
+ Cleveland goes Kopet to Zishka again with a 12-yard touchdown pass. (Extra point kick was good.) It is Cleveland ahead, 35-20.
+ Boyd runs thirteen-yard for a Wolverine touchdown. (Two-point conversion fails.) Cleveland leads, 35-26. (Final score.)
A combined total of 55 points was scored by the teams in the first half (Cleveland, 35 and MLA, 20). And, while the Wolverines kept the Clippers scoreless in the second half, they were only able to score one touchdown for six points.
