MLPS School Board approves resignations, new hires
Staff changes for the Mountain Lake Public School District were the focus of attention at a pair of special meetings of the Mountain Lake Public School (MLPS) School Board, one week apart.
At their Monday, August 24 meeting, board members approved the resignations of bus drivers Lori Braun, Merv Rempel, Doug Penner and Rosalie Dick. The four will remain hired as bus drivers for MLPS – but are now employees of Palmer Bus Service of North Mankato. At an earlier school board meeting, the decision was made to contract with Palmer for school district transportation.
On the Palmer Bus Service website, it is noted that “Palmer Bus Service has been in the school transportation business since 1974 and currently serves over 20 Minnesota School Districts. Palmer Bus also provides transportation to governmental entities including colleges and universities. Palmer Bus Service prides itself as a safe reliable transportation provider with a high degree of customer service. Palmer Bus Service employs around 600 employees and operates about 500 school buses, vans and trucks.”
Members also accepted the resignation of custodian Mike Peters, effective September 17, 2015.
Their last action in the meeting was to hire Michael Watkins as a part-time custodian.
The following Monday, August 31, the board approved the resignation of Grace Kratovil as Town & Country Daycare Director, and approved current Daycare Aide, Joanne Karschnik, to step up to the director position at a rate of $16.85 per hour. The move is contingent on approval by the Minnesota Department of Health.
Also hired to serve as Grounds and Maintenance Supervisor was John Carrison, at a rate of pay of $45,000 a year.
The board approved one more hire, that of Rachel Stevens as a Daycare Aide at a rate of $8 per hour.
