I-90 ramps at Jackson, Sherburn to open soon

Continued progress on the Interstate 90 pavement project in JacksonCounty and Martin County will result in the opening of more ramps – including the eastbound I-90 ramps at United States Highway #71 in Jackson tomorrow (Friday, July 10) and the westbound ramps in Sherburn on Friday, July 17 – weather permitting.

Upcoming closures due to this same project moving forward include the I-90 westbound ramp to Jackson County Road #29 as early as Friday, July 17 and the I-90 eastbound rest area (Clear Lake) at Jackson closing on Tuesday, July 14.

Motorists are advised to check www.511mn.org before they travel for up-to-date ramp closures and corresponding detours.

Updated timelines of ramp and rest area opening/closures include:

* Westbound Highway #71 ramps at Jackson, westbound rest area at Jackson – both opened on Monday, June 22.

* Eastbound Highway #4 ramps at Sherburn opened on Wednesday, July 1.

* Eastbound Highway #71 ramps at Jackson plan to open this Friday, July 10.

* Westbound Highway #4 ramps at Sherburn plan to open on Friday, July 17.

* Eastbound rest area at Jackson to be closed from Tuesday, July 14 into early August.

* Westbound Jackson County Road #29 ramp closes on Friday, July 17.

* Highway #86 ramps at Lakefield closure to be determined in 2016.

This $36 million project, consisting of both concrete and asphalt work between Round Lake and Sherburn, is being designed and built at the same time and should be complete in July 2016.

Constructed in the 1970s, the I-90 pavements are nearing the end of their service life. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is investing $50 million in savings and $30 million of District 7 funds over the next few years into the rural interstate system to improve performance. The $80 million investment will improve 120 miles of some of the poorest interstate pavements and an additional $20 million will be invested to repair the bridges.0,
